What does “Miles for Mac” actually do on my computer?

It's a small menu-bar app. Once you sign in, Miles can search and write files in folders you pick, read and send your iMessages with a trust level per contact, run its own Chrome on your Mac for sites without an API, run a terminal in folders you flip on, and use any API or MCP server you plug in. Each capability is off until you turn it on, and each has an always-ask list it never bypasses.

Does that mean Miles reads all my messages and files?

Only the folders and conversations you scope, and the raw data stays on the Mac. What leaves the machine is the specific snippet needed for the task, and every answer tells you exactly what that was: “left this Mac: 1 name, 1 path, 1 snippet.” Your credentials never reach the model.

What happens when Miles is unsure, or about to do something I can't undo?

It stops and stages a card: in the app, in Slack, or in the Mac app. One tap runs it. Trust ramps per folder, contact, and site in plain words: writes freely, asks first, always asks, never. And it pushes back when the ask looks like a mistake.

Do I need the Mac app to get value?

No. The web app alone gives you the brief, meeting prep, the note-taker, memory, pipeline, and agents. Miles for Mac is what lets Miles reach the things that live on your computer, and it's included with Pro and Team.

Windows? Linux? A Mac mini in the closet?
